What is the "Green Advantage"?

Sustainability = Profitability

It really is that simple. The complexity comes when businesses begin to explore exactly how to turn sustainability into profitability. At Right Choice Energy we have made a practice out of proving this principle.

To our long history of extensive relationships with the nation’s premier power providers, we have added a unique understanding of the alternative energy industry. We offer an extensive list of existing and leading edge solutions that will complement any size business or governmental agency. Whether you are contemplating a shift in approach to your power needs or seeking to improve your operations, some understanding of the following sustainability concepts and green solutions is essential to your long term success.

Right Choice Energy is here to assist you in this process at every step, as it can get overwhelming to capture. Please review the following brief descriptions and contact us at your convenience.

Energy Audits

“An energy audit is an inspection, survey and analysis of energy flows for energy conservation in a building, process or system to reduce the amount of energy input into the system without negatively affecting the output(s).” – as found in Wikipedia. This sums it up fairly well. Assessing your current situation is the most critical step and it is a fairly encompassing process. Once complete, however, it is enlightening as to how some minor, and potentially needed but perhaps not immediate changes, can have a significant impact on your bottom line.

Energy Efficiency

As defined by the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory: Energy efficiency is "using less energy to provide the same service". Energy efficiency is not energy conservation. Energy conservation is reducing or going without a service to save energy. For example: Turning off a light is energy conservation. Replacing an incandescent lamp with a compact fluorescent lamp (which uses much less energy to produce the same amount of light) is energy efficiency.

Both efficiency and conservation can reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Although a simple distinction, the implementation of each can have dramatically different impacts on your income statement. Both are good, and both must be properly explored prior to any potential capital expenditures. The governmental and tax incentives are a critical factor for most. On all these areas, RCE holds the expertise that will streamline your process flow and institutional understanding, thereby making your corporate or governmental process more “efficient”, no pun intended…

Energy Management Systems (EMS)

  • Demand-Response Programs
  • Smart Grid Options
  • Sub-Metering Designs
  • Load Management
  • Control Systems

Each of these can play an integral role in your energy efficiency strategy, some greater than others, depending on the industry in which you operate. RCE will guide you in the areas most essential to improving your operations AND THEN guide you to the best providers of these solutions. Some are our long-time partners, some are not. The best answer for you will ALWAYS take precedence over our relationships. The most important relationship we have is with you. Let us prove that to you as we have to thousands of others.

Renewable Energy Credits (RECs)

As defined by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency: “A REC (pronounced: rek) represents the property rights to the environmental, social, and other nonpower qualities of renewable electricity generation. A REC, and its associated attributes and benefits, can be sold separately from the underlying physical electricity associated with a renewable-based generation source.” Sounds confusing, but this is one of the hot topics of the day, without question. These credits currently trade very regularly and if you are buying or selling them today but are in any way unclear as to how they work, call us immediately. This market is unregulated and governed loosely at best, but it is real and incredibly useful if you take care to understand it properly. We have.

FACT: In the United States alone, buildings account for 72% of energy consumption. (USGBC). Purchasing RECs allows a business to lower its carbon footprint whether or not it is actually producing carbon. Simply using energy that is produced from a fossil fuel (coal, oil, gas) can have a negative environmental impact, one that is often overlooked. Many businesses and government entities are exploring ways to acquire RECs as a way to positively impact the environment and by extension to meet the RPS standards mandated by the government. RCE can assist your business in determining these same answers.

Buying Solar / Wind Power Directly

There are providers who can sell your business up to 100% renewable energy power from many different types of production; solar (any variation), wind, biomass, methane recapture, syngas, CHP, etc. Knowing who to approach and the questions to ask in the process can be entirely different depending on the source you seek. Sometimes a combination is more difficult to achieve but may help your business capture the greatest tax benefits, depending on which State you are in and the industry in which you operate. Sometimes one source is better. RCE will assist you in this process and guide you towards the best solution for your business.
